If nobody uses Firefox, then Mozilla can no longer be a force for good on the internet. They have to make pragmatic decisions like accepting this or H.264 so their users will not be driven to proprietary browsers.
As long as the most popular media sites require DRM, Firefox will have to offer the option of supporting it. Anything less would be a 'broken' browser, which users will abandon. Those of us who don't use DRM crippled sites will never be affected by this.
