Why do Java programmers wear glasses?

    Because they can't C sharp!

(Thanks to the guy sitting next to me in my C# class)

when C# was being developed at microsoft, the publicity department kept calling it "C pound" at a meeting with lead developers, who were like, "what the hell is C pound?" it turns out they had been communicating by email the whole time so had no idea. they were just about ready to go public too. :-)

New blog post about an emacs bug I ran into in 24.3, detailing the frustrations of the #emacs IRC channel and discovering the fix. Grrr!

  • Flight on a bus

2014-05-18T07:16:19Z via Pumpa To: Public CC: Followers

I went to a local Libreplanet meeting tonight, and it was a blast. I was worried I'd be late if I took the direct bus, so I took the bus downtown instead with the intention of transferring.

Halfway into downtown, the bus driver got angry at a passenger listening to to music on their phone very loudly without headphones, and in his excitement, he missed some people waiting at the bus stop. He stopped the bus suddenly. I was sitting in a side-facing seat, and with nothing to hold onto, and I was flung about 15 feet across the bus by the sudden stop. I wound up with scratch marks on both arms, abrasions in three spots (including through my jeans on my knees), and some bruises. But I was okay. I transferred downtown and headed to the meetup. Cue fun and interesting conversation.

On the bus ride back, I check my Rockbox player. No music. When I had been flung across the bus, I had been holding my music player. My 32G microSD card must have been dislodged during the flight. At least I have backups?

Maybe someone will find a MicroSD full of ogg files, and it will make their day.

I love my little sansa clip+, apparently the DAC is fantastic, but all I know is that it sounds great, is light as a feather, and plays OPUS just fine (which was a problem on my sansa e200 before this one).

Benjamin, yeah, seriously. :P It's almost completely ogg, but I doubt it'll make their day. Makes me want to leave a little text file in all of my USB and microSD drives with my name and address? They might be nice and return it, or they might come and get me. :o So I dunno.

    Aubrey Raech at 2014-05-20T05:44:42Z

i'm glad to hear that about the dac. i ordered one last night, so it's good news to me!

i was going to buy one from amazon, but thankfully, i found a better deal on ebay, with free shipping. newegg also had free shipping on the microsd i bought, so it ended up being $10 cheaper over all, and apparently the more ethical choice.

i'm thinking of leaving a text file on my microsd saying what an .ogg file is and how to install free software to play them, since the chances of me getting it back might be slim. although, putting a folder in there with pictures of babies could help. i'm guessing that including a partial archive of gnu.org would be over the top.

  • Pokemon dream?

2014-05-14T17:50:55Z via Pumpa To: Public CC: Followers

My partner just woke up and told me about this dream she had last night. In it, she was at Nintendo headquarters protesting in defense of the first two generations of Pokemon games (because of the new release?). She got in a fight with a friend about which was more hipster, and then I rode in, riding a gnu, and with the POWER OF STALLMAN I made all of the Pokemon open-source.

That's right, the Pokemon, not the games. :O Then some glitch Pokemon came and scared all the open source Pokemon away! Crazy.

Which reminds me, a libreware Fakemon game would be high on my libre gaming wishlist

@JanKusanagi It wasn't my dream, and in her dream they were made open source, not free software. :P

All right, but she clearly doesn't know much about RMS. Or, well, her subconscious =)

Wow, this open farm game has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen, and yet I'm strangely drawn into watering my crops... I guess I can see why people get so drawn up in these stupid, stupid social network games... save me...
